Construction in the Settlements - 2004 Summary
In 21 settlements construction is in process outside the construction line. This despite of Dov Weisglass' letter to Condoleezza Rice dated April 14, 2004, In which Israel agreed to restrict settlement growth to existing construction line.

Final Count of Houses Actually Under Construction.

During 2004, at least 1834 Dunams of constructed land or land prepared for use, had been added to the settlements. Click here for table.

Today, there are approximately 3,500 residential units under construction throughout the West Bank.

Tenders were issued for the construction of 962 residential units during 2004.

In 21 settlements construction work is in process in areas which are clearly outside the developed area of the settlements.

Massive construction in various stages is currently underway in more than 40 different settlements.

In addition, private construction is in process in dozens of settlements.

Large settlements have very large construction sites.

During the last few months, the settlements in the Kalkilya-Tulkarem sector have experienced a trend of rapid expansion, especially Alfei Menashe and Tzofim.  Construction is in process in regions west of the separation fence. Despite the Government of Israel’s denials of accusations that it intends to turn the boundaries of the fence into a permanent border, this building indicates an attempt to make a permanent border out of the fence. The instrument for this transformation is the increased expansion of the existing settlements.
